Frequently Asked Questions

What is your photography style?

My photography style is inspired by beautiful light, vibrant organic colors, and genuine emotions. I embrace a candid approach to capturing people, focusing on those "in-between" moments that reveal true honesty in my images. My goal is to capture this season of life we share together.

I don't strive for picture-perfect portraits; after all, most of us aren’t professional models, and our families and lives aren't editorial photo shoots. Building a connection with people and their unique stories is my priority, as it paves the way for creating memorable, authentic photographs.

What time will our session be?

To make the most of the most beautiful light, if possible outdoor sessions are scheduled for either late afternoon/evening or early morning.

In home sessions have a lot more flexibility for time. Because we are indoors, it leaves us open to photograph at any time of the day. I usually schedule in-home lifestyle sessions for around 10am in the morning, or 2pm in the afternoon.

I always try to be flexible around kid nap times and your family’s routine, so feel free to let me know the time of day that suits you best. Happy babies/kids are a great start, so generally straight after their morning nap is a great time to begin our shoot.

What do I wear?

The most important thing to me is that you are comfortable and relaxed. These are your memories and a reflection of this moment in time, don’t be afraid of letting you shine through!

Below I suggest some things you might want to consider.

- Keeping it simple works best. Neutral tones with a pop of colour works really well. It’s great to coordinate, pick a few colours and dress everyone in these tones but not everyone completely matching.

- Textures and patterns photograph beautifully. You don’t need to shy away from florals, stripes and layers. Long flowing dresses and skirts can create beautiful and fun elements of movement, especially outdoors.

- I do recommend staying away from big logos, neon colours and large sections of red colours as they can be distracting.  However, if your 3 year old (or husband) really wants to wear a certain shirt that day, we will make that work!

- Shoes are optional!

What if my children have a tantrum or won't co-operate?

I have young children and know how unpredictable they can be with moods and behaviour, so I really encourage people to keep it simple and fun. We’ll work it out… and make it work! My best advice is to let the children do what comes naturally. Too much fussing or instruction tends to result in tantrums, clamming up or they feel overwhelmed, and everyone gets stressed. My best photos are the ones where the people are just being themselves without guidance. The moments will come. During the session you might worry we aren’t getting the right photos but leave that bit to me. I’m a huge fan of real life – all the messy, chaotic imperfect things that make up our lives. So if there is an epic meltdown in progress I might take a photo because there is beauty in those moments of connecting.

My house is not perfect

Whose is! People often think their house is not the right venue for a photo shoot. I love photographing in peoples homes because they hold so much meaning and it’s often where people feel most comfortable and at ease. Your house doesn’t have to be spotless. A quick whip around to clear some clutter is all that’s needed. You don’t need to stress. I love lived-in homes and want to tell your story authentically.

Tips for newborn sessions

My newborn style is very different from studio newborn photography. It is more relaxed and free flowing with a focus on simplicity, connection and storytelling. If you want sleepy newborn photos then 6-12 days is an ideal time to book your session. If you want more interactive photos with your babe’s personality shining, then any time up until 12 weeks is great for a newborn session.

If you want, you can have a few outfits handy for baby – a simple wonder suit, a beautiful print and a wrap or special blanket on hand. We can use a few different options throughout your session. I will always attempt to book your session time around the time you think baby will be most settled. I allow plenty of time for cuddle breaks and feeds, so we are never rushed.

Tips for in home sessions

Natural light is best – open up all the blinds and shutters and turn off overhead lights.

I’d love to have a tour of your home when I arrive and I may need to shoot most of the images in the rooms with the best light, whether that be your master bedroom, kids rooms or lounges and we can even go have a play in the garden.

If you were keen for some photos in the main bedroom here are a few things to keep in mind:

A few things I recommend is having a natural duvet cover if at all possible. You can even use the duvet insert instead of a cover, use only light sheets, or sprawl light quilt over the bed, Whites and neutrals will allow more light to reflect up onto your faces, will brighten all of your images, and create a timeless feel. If you don’t have something white or neutral, be sure to keep it as classic as possible.

I will often shoot towards the bed so if you have items on your end tables that you don’t want seen in the final images, please move them out of the bedroom or tuck them into some drawers out of view. However, on the flipside I love how household objects help to tell your story, so don’t feel like you need to do a huge declutter. It’s up to you!

Be yourself

I will take the time to guide you into genuine moments to capture the genuine smiles, booming laughter and soft affections. I am here to document the everyday moments that all add up to create the big memories you look to cherish most. All you need to do is be you. Allow yourself to be present in the moment as much as possible and see it as a time to just focus on your family and enjoy being together.

What if I need to postpone?

I completely understand that things don't always go as planned, and we can easily reschedule for another day at no additional cost if sickness or weather is an issue.

How do I book with you?

Once you’ve reviewed the brochure I sent, feel free to reach out to me. We can then arrange a complimentary consultation at a time that works for you. This meeting will allow you to ask any questions you may have, and it will help both of us determine if we’re the right fit for each other. Establishing that connection is essential when selecting your photographer.
